Indian Street Fashion : The Pune Pandharpur Palki

Indian Street Fashion : The Pune Pandharpur Palki

Last week Pune witnessed a street fashion frenzy. A riot of neons splattered across pristine devotion and vintage treasures brought out to carry forward traditions.
It wasn't conventional fashion, but then who is to define "conventional"? None the less it is beautiful, it is gorgeous and it is tradition.
So here are some facts about the palki
1. It is a tradition that has been upheld for over 700 years.
2. Over a million pilgrims participate.
3. They travel on foot (often barefoot too) for 21 days covering 235 Kms
4. They travel with the palki from Sant Tukaram Temple at Dehu to the Vithoba Temple at Pandharpur.
It is a sea of people all seeped in belief and devotion, it is also a sea of style and inspiration..

So, starting with an image of the Sant Tukaram Palki..
